Staff Plays with Kids

Hesed House staff takes time to play with kids.

With the help of professional staff, alliances with outside agencies and 6,000 volunteers from 70 area churches, almost 1,000 individuals (including 188 children) are served each year through Hesed House’s shelter and three housing programs.

Hesed House is heavily dependent upon its valued volunteers which generally are categorized as follows:

  • Groups that are willing to make long-term commitments. The primary foundation for feeding and serving individuals and families at Hesed House is composed of many faith-based groups in the Fox Valley area, followed by civic organizations and businesses who sign on to prepare  and serve food in the PADS shelter on an ongoing basis.
  • Individuals or families who would like to volunteer in our programs on an as-needed or as-available basis.  Opportunities are matched with an individual’s areas of interest, experience and availability.
  • Groups that would like to help with specific building-related projects (painting, landscaping and minor repair and construction projects).

Volunteer Application Process

How do I begin the process for volunteering?

Please contact our Director of Volunteers at: 630–897–2165 ext. 538 or at bthurlby@hesedhouse.org

Barb maintains the schedule for individual volunteers, volunteer groups, open dates where extra help is needed and all volunteer–related projects.

Volunteer Applications can be downloaded here (individual application, group application) and returned to the Director of Volunteers.

Applications can also be requested by phone which will then be mailed or faxed to you.

Please remember that Hesed House is not able to accept requests for court ordered service. And in cases where volunteer projects involve interaction with children, background checks of applicants will be conducted prior to approving volunteer service. Hesed House and the Kane County Health Department require all volunteers to register in advance of, or upon arrival at Hesed House, for their volunteer service. The contact information you provide will be used for emergency notification purposes, and not shared with outside sources.

To learn more about volunteering at Hesed House, please review our Volunteer Guidelines Summary.

Thank you for your interest in wanting to help change lives at Hesed House. We look forward to having you with us.
